The Porn Tsunami: Making Waves in the White House

Previously I lamented the porn tsunami that has been flooding the US and the world. What once was properly reviled as filth has increasingly been given the false image of acceptability by the media and many influential people, often because they profit from it. Sadly, the waves of the porn tsunami are even lapping at the doors of the White House. Many Christians share my shock at the news that the Bush Administration is inviting an allegedly “Christian” porn star, Mary Carey, and her millionaire boss to a Washington dinner with the President for a little fund raising (news sources: WND.com 1, WND.com 2, and Washington Post). (The temptation to throw in a few questionable puns here is almost more than I can bear – but I’ll strive to keep this blog on the straight and narrow.)

Many Christians think they have voted in a man to defend family values. Do you feel betrayed? Why not?

It was bad enough (for me) when President Bush brought in Ozzie Osbourne and publicly praised that vile Satanist, but to bring in a porn star? Aren’t people going to notice?

Yeah, Ms. Carey she says she’s a “Christian” and that she reads her Bible. Sweet. She also defends adultery and her revolting prostitution on film. Do values and morals mean nothing anymore? Is it enough to be attractive, wealthy, and not drool while you talk so that you appear to be a “nice person”?

“But he’s better than Candidate X” (or XXX?) some of you will say. OK, I agree that there may be other politicians with lower standards. There have probably been other leaders who were even more supportive of porn stars. But is throwing our support to the lesser of two evils every time an election rolls around the only way to stand up for that which is good? Kingmen or Gadiantons – which will it be?

  1. If you’re so upset about the “family values candidate” doing nothing more serious than “pressing the flesh” among some unsavory celebrities, then with the mindset I bet you’d get all bent out of shape over President Bush as Commander in Chief in the War Against Terror when he invited the pro-terrorist Mahmound Abbas of the PLO into the White House and promised to give him millions of US dollars of aid.

You’re just so picky, picky, picky about these little things. We need to expand our thinking to see the wisdom in reaching out to people from all walks of life – porn stars, criminals, terrorists – and giving them what they want, whether that’s credibility, fame, taxpayer cash or a shipload of explosives. That’s how you win supporters, Mr. Lindsay, not by going around criticizing them for their lifestyles.

Jeff you ask a good question here and one I think should especially be asked of our LDS politicians as well as of Pres. Bush. I think we often do elect good people but once they get to Washington they are tainted by power or whatever it is that leads them toward the Gadiantons. We have a Mormon Senator from our state. He is a former Bishop and someone I not only campaigned for but gave a significant amount of money. As with President Bush he is the lessor of two evils but I have been very disappointed in his willingness to stand up and be a Kingmen. The last time he ran his campaign pandered to those supporting abortion and over-reaching gay-rights. When I question him, his staff or even other Mormons, how this squares with his LDS values, the answer always is that it is better for him to be there than not be there and that he better than the other very left leaning Senator. He isn’t the only one of our Mormon US Senators who disappoint me either.

  3. Ah, now I see the light. I repent.

Why didn’t I see this before? It’s so unfair of me to blame these people for their lifestyle. Porn stars are determined genetically – they tend to have different bodies than the rest of us (so I hear) – so it’s obviously not some kind of “choice” that they make. Same for terrorists, I’m sure. I mean, they all look wretched. I’m sure it’s just their genes. Do you think Abbas decided as a young man that he wanted to support people bent on blowing up Jews? Do you think he deliberately wanted to be co-founder of Fatah with Yasser Arafat and end up sharing the guilt of hundreds of murders? Do you think it was fun being the right-hand-man of the grandfather of global terrorism? Do you think he enjoys running a despotic state where people suspected of collaborating with Israel are summarily executed in public without a trial? Of course not.

I guess terrorism is an identity, not a choice. So the only wise thing to do is to embrace it and fund it so they will like us. Abbas needs our help and our funds (“Would you like your $350 million in cash or dynamite?”). I guess President Bush is just being smart.

  4. Is it possible that the President is simply following Jesus’ examples in the Bible of associating with many persons who were looked down upon by others–the prostitutes, publicans, tax-collectors, etc., sinners in general, because he loved them and loves us all–and Mr. Bush is attempting, as Christ did, to bring the person’s level up rather than to bring his own down?

  5. The bit about Gadiantons just made me want to throw this out there – John Kerry and George Bush are both members of the same secret society, Skull and Bones.

This may be a little too ‘conspiracy theory’ for some, but whenever I hear about the Gadianton robbers I can’t help but think about how many of Americas’ politicians belong to secret societies, S&B or otherwise. Ether 8 also made me think of this.
