“The Mormon Myth of Evil Evolution”: Article Now Online

On the issue of evolution, I have previously recommended an excellent article by Michael R. Ash, “The Mormon Myth of Evil Evolution,” Dialogue, Vol. 35, 2003, pp. 19-59. Brother Ash sent me e-mail informing me that his article is available online in PDF format at http://www.mormonfortress.com/evolution.pdf. Good news!

  1. sorry this is kind of off topic, jeff. but i love your site and would like to hear all the input you have on what the church says about gays and gay rights, etc. I think marriage as an institution should be kept between a man and a woman, so I agree w/ the church there. But if men are born w/ a predisposition to their own gender, as they claim, no matter how hard they try should they be expected to ignore all feelings (even nonsexual ones) to marry a woman? or are they expected to just remain unmarried their whole lives, w/o monogamous companionship. should they not be allowed the right to adopt children? i guess i just am curious as to what the official church position is on what gays should be doing besides just abstaining from gay sexual relations. it seems like because of this one “problem” they say they’re born with, they can never have quite the same joy as straight people. i really dont think its fair, especially considering the fact that so many of my gay friends are much nicer than the straight people i know. they shouldn’t have it so hard or be so restricted in what they are allowed to do. controlling themselves sexually is probably hard enough. just wondering what your thoughts are. thanks

  2. Hi, thanks for posting that pdf on evolution. I am a member of the Church and am also studying Archaeology. It was great to read some thoughts that have been in the Churcha nd to realize that I’m not the only one who has thought of some of those things. Again thank you.
