Name This Famous Institution in Utah

Here are a couple scenes from the building of a world-famous organization in Utah. Do you recognize it? Know why it’s so important? And can you tell me the lengthy name of another famous Utah-based organization that has its name prominently displayed on one of the floors of this building?

I got to tour this building recently and was very impressed with what is going on here. It’s also a great place for lunch!

  1. “Joseph F. Smith memorial building of BYU?”

Oh, man! That place is beautiful! I went there during homecoming and it was something. Huge! I don’t know how it fit into that spot, I dont remember the old building being that big. Sorry for rambling here, just made me think of that.

  2. Yes, it’s the Hunstman Cancer Institute, a world-class center for research and treatment of cancer. The photos are of the hospital, adjacent to the research institute. What a beautiful and serene place it is – so completely patient-centered with numerous thoughtful touches.

One of the floors is named after the Church. I understand that a signficant donation was made from the non-tithing funds to support the outstanding work of the Institute.

  3. I have a problem with hospital corporations building Taj-mahal-like buildings like that. We all pay for those through health insurance premiums, and tax money through medicare.

  4. I agree, BOM in Indy. A basic search on the internet will let you know that the US is the country that spends the most on health care, yet ranks 37th in regards to quality and attention (France is #1). This is due to the fact that in the “health care marketplace,” the exchange of funds occurs between the health care providers and third-party institutions (goverment and insurance companies). In other words, the “consumers” in this marketplace are usually not the patients, and therefore the providers’ incentives for improvement and rising above competition comes from the 3rd party.
But when the patients DO pay, boy do they pay a lot…

  5. Huntsman Cancer Hospital/ institute.

Thanks. Your blog has helped me with my testimony. I’m getting ready to serve a mission and I’ve found incredibly useful info here.

    Your an amazing person.
