Off to a Great Start: The Mormon Interpreter and Nephi’s Encounter with the Divine

The painful void that will be left at the Maxwell Institute is already being filled with the launch of the very promising new Mormon Interpreter. Check out the new scholarly publication there, “Thou Knowest That I Believe: Invoking The Spirit of the Lord as Council Witness in 1 Nephi 11” by David E. Bokovoy, an article that brings out a great deal of added meaning in Nephi’s account by recognizing the significance of subtle elements related to other Hebraic accounts of ascent to the presence of Deity.

Providing a resource of this nature involves a good deal of time and money, and your donations can help. Yes, the Mormon Interpreter is a 501(c)3 non-profit that can receive tax deductible donations, and today would be a good time to donate.

  1. The apologetic mission of FARMS was probably doomed from the moment it became institutionalized at BYU. Acquisitions of this nature eventually lead to orthodoxy. Indeed, it may be that they are undertaken mainly for that purpose.

    While it is regretful that the Interpreter must rebuild from the ground up, the fact that FARMS once traveled this path proves that it can be done. It may even be that the founders have learned a thing or two about how to improve on that process.

    Yes, it will take time and money. But if it's worth doing ….
